One of the main concerns of any music student is the ability and convenience to
practice. The UT percussion studio, located on the sixth floor of the music
building, has seven practice rooms dedicated to percussion students:
-
6.190 Timpani
-
6.189 4 1/2 Marimba
-
6.188 Musser M250
-
6.187 Xylophone & Vibes
-
6.224 Drum Set
-
6.232 5 Octave Marimba (multiple set ups)
-
6.228 5 Octave Marimba & Vibes
The percussion ensemble room (6.222) host an impressive inventory of
percussion equipment, which allows the University to program virtually any work
for any ensemble; large, chamber or solo. Student's access to such a large
inventory also helps to provide for a convenient practice routine. Some of the
more rare instruments include a 3 octave chromatic set of Burmese nipple gongs
and Amglocken, the Berlioz Symphony Fantastic chimes, and the
"Ionisation" air raid siren.
